IIM Kashipur Selection Criteria 2026 — JAP Cutoffs, a Work-Ex Curve That Peaks at 18–30 Months & the Full 100-Point Formula
The IIM Kashipur selection criteria moved to a shared Joint Admission Process for 2026, but the final merit list is still built entirely by Kashipur — on a 100-point formula where work experience alone can swing up to 15 points, and where that score hits zero the moment you cross 36 months. Here’s the complete two-stage process, decoded from the official admission policy.

1. What Makes the IIM Kashipur Selection Criteria Different
Two things set IIM Kashipur apart from most other IIMs in this series. First, there is no Written Ability Test in the process — the final 100 points come entirely from CAT, the Personal Interview, academic records, work experience, and diversity factors. Second, work experience carries a disproportionately high 15-point weight — the largest single non-CAT, non-PI factor in any IIM’s formula covered in this series — and it is structured to sharply reward the 18–30 month window before falling steeply and hitting zero past 36 months.
The shortlisting process itself moved from the Common Admission Process (CAP) to the Joint Admission Process (JAP 2026) this cycle, shared with IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Trichy, with IIM Raipur coordinating. But once PI shortlisting is done, IIM Kashipur builds its own independent merit list using its published formula.
2. IIM Kashipur Eligibility Criteria 2026
- A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university, with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
- A relaxed minimum of 45% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
- A valid CAT 2025 score that meets the JAP 2026 cutoffs for your category.
- Final-year students may apply, subject to producing proof of degree completion before the date specified by the institute.
3. IIM Kashipur CAT Cutoffs: Eligibility vs Actual PI Calls
As with every other JAP 2026 institute, there are two tiers here — the published minimum to be eligible, and the percentile that actually produced a PI call for the 2026–28 batch.
Table 1 — Minimum Eligibility Cutoffs (Based on Previous Cycle; JAP 2026 Updates Apply)
| Category | QA | DILR | VRC | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General | 75 | 75 | 75 | 95 |
| EWS | 55 | 55 | 55 | 81 |
| NC-OBC | 52 | 52 | 52 | 81 |
| SC | 45 | 45 | 45 | 66 |
| ST | 30 | 25 | 25 | 42 |
| PwD | 30 | 25 | 25 | 42 |

| Category | PI Shortlisting Cutoff |
|---|---|
| General | 96.25 |

| NC-OBC | 88.50 |
| SC | 75.00 |
| ST | 44.00 |
| PwD | 30.00 |
⚠ Two Very Different “Cutoffs” — Know Which One You’re Looking At
The eligibility floor for General category sits at 95 overall — but the JAP 2026 PI shortlist only opened at 96.25. A candidate at exactly 95 overall percentile was technically eligible but didn’t receive a call. Always plan against the actual PI-shortlisting percentile in Table 2, not the registration minimum in Table 1.
4. The Two-Stage IIM Kashipur Selection Process (JAP 2026)
- Stage 1 — PI Shortlisting via JAP 2026. All candidates who applied to IIM Kashipur during CAT 2025 registration and clear the category-wise cutoffs (Table 1) are eligible. The actual shortlist for PI is released under JAP 2026 guidelines (Table 2 cutoffs), common across all four JAP institutes.
- Stage 2a — Personal Interview. IIM Kashipur conducts its own PI for shortlisted candidates. The PI carries 25 of the 100 final points.
- Stage 2b — Merit List Generation. After PI, IIM Kashipur builds a category-wise merit list using the full 100-point formula (Table 3 below). Admission offers are made by rank within each category.
Selected candidates are notified by email, after which they must confirm admission through the offer acceptance letter and a refundable deposit of ₹50,000 (adjusted at the time of admission).
5. IIM Kashipur Selection Criteria: The 100-Point Final Score
The Grand Total = PI (25 points) + Merit List Score (75 points), giving a combined 100-point formula:
Table 3 — IIM Kashipur Final Merit List Weightage (Out of 100)
| Component | Points | How It’s Calculated |
|---|---|---|
| CAT Score (CS) | 41 | (Candidate’s CAT Score ÷ Highest CAT Score) × 41 |
| Personal Interview (PI) | 25 | Direct PI evaluation score |
| Work Experience (WE) | 15 | Slab-based (see Table 4) |
| Graduation Marks (GM) | 5 | Slab-based on % (see Table 5) |
| Gender Diversity (DFb) | 6 | Female or Transgender = 6; else 0 |
| Academic Diversity (DFa) | 2 | Listed non-engineering disciplines = 2; else 0 |
| Class X Marks | 2 | (Class X % ÷ 100) × 2 |
| Class XII Marks | 2 | (Class XII % ÷ 100) × 2 |
| Professional Qualifications (PQ) | 2 | CA / CS / ICWA = 2; else 0 |
| Total | 100 |
💡 CAT + PI = 66% — But Work Experience Can Swing It by 15 Points
The combined CAT and PI weight is 66 of 100 — that’s the foundation. But within the remaining 34%, work experience alone takes up 15 points, making it the single largest non-CAT, non-PI factor in the formula. For candidates in the right experience band, work experience can realistically determine whether they rank above or below a peer with a near-identical CAT and PI score.

6. IIM Kashipur Work Experience Weightage — The Full Curve
IIM Kashipur’s work-experience curve is the most sharply shaped of any IIM in this series: it rises steeply to a plateau, then falls in one step, and then drops to zero entirely.
Table 4 — Work Experience Score Bands
| Work Experience | Score (out of 15) |
|---|---|
| Less than 6 months | 0 |
| 6–12 months | 3 |
| 12–18 months | 7 |
| 18–24 months | 15 (maximum) |
| 24–30 months | 15 (maximum) |
| 30–36 months | 5 |
| Greater than 36 months | 0 |
💡 The Narrowest, Sharpest Peak in This Series
IIM Kashipur’s work-experience curve is more compressed than any other JAP IIM covered here. It peaks at 18–30 months (15 points), drops sharply to 5 points at 30–36 months, and hits zero past 36 months — compared to IIM Raipur’s gradual 36–42 month peak or IIM Trichy’s symmetric 24–29 month curve. The implication is direct: candidates with exactly 30–36 months of experience lose 10 points relative to the 18–30 month band, and those past 36 months score zero — the same as a fresh graduate with under 6 months. If you’re timing your application around work-experience scoring, 18–30 months is the window to target at IIM Kashipur.
Graduation Marks
Table 5 — Graduation Marks Scoring (Out of 5)
| Graduation % Score | Points |
|---|---|
| Below 50% | 0 |
| 50–60% | 1 |
| Above 60–70% | 2 |
| Above 70–75% | 3 |
| Above 75–80% | 4 |
| Above 80% | 5 |
7. Academic Diversity, Gender Diversity & Professional Qualifications
Three smaller components round out the formula:
- Academic Diversity (2 points): awarded to candidates from non-engineering undergraduate disciplines. The eligible list is broad — it includes arts, humanities, commerce, economics, basic sciences, law, medicine, pharmacy, management, architecture, journalism, social work, and many more. Engineering graduates score 0 on this component.
- Gender Diversity (6 points): awarded to female and transgender candidates. At 6 points, this is the largest fixed-bonus component in the formula — more than Class X, Class XII, or academic diversity combined.
- Professional Qualifications (2 points): awarded specifically to candidates holding a CA (Chartered Accountant), CS (Company Secretary), or ICWA (now CMA) qualification. Other certifications don’t qualify under this line item.
8. IIM Kashipur Reservation Policy 2026
Table 6 — Reservation by Category
| Category | Reservation |
|---|---|
| NC-OBC | 27% |
| SC | 15% |
| ST | 7.5% |
| EWS | 10% |
| PwD | 5% |
9. IIM Kashipur Selection Criteria vs the Other IIMs
Table 7 — IIM Kashipur vs the Other IIMs
| IIM | Shortlist Basis | Final — CAT | Final — PI | Work-Ex Peak |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kashipur | JAP 2026 (shared with Raipur/Ranchi/Trichy) | 41% | 25% | 18–30 months (15 pts, drops to 0 past 36) |
| Trichy | CAT cutoff + category-wise evaluation | 52% | 20% | 24–29 months (symmetric drop to 0 past 48) |
| Raipur | JAP 2026 shared shortlist | 33.3% | 26.7% | 36–42 months (declines past 42, not to 0) |
| Ranchi | JAP 2026 (sectional + overall cutoff) | 65% | 12.5% | 24–60 months (up to 7 bonus marks) |
| Rohtak | Overall CAT percentile + diversity (no sectional) | 60% | 20% | Caps at 36 months (no decline) |
| Mumbai | CAT score only (sectional cutoff + rank) | 60% | 20% | Caps at 36 months (no decline) |
| Ahmedabad | CAT + Application Rating | 25% | 50% | Moderate weight |
| Bangalore | CAT 55% + academics 30% + work-ex + gender | 25% | 40% | Quality-multiplier approach |
| Calcutta | CAT 56/85 + Class 10 + Class 12 + gender | 30% | 48% | Peaks at 24–36 months, declines |
💡 IIM Kashipur Has the Lowest CAT Weight and the Sharpest Work-Ex Curve
At 41%, IIM Kashipur’s CAT weight is the lowest of any IIM in this series — lower even than Raipur’s 33.3% on paper, once you account for the fact that PI adds another 25%. The combined CAT + PI is 66%, leaving the most room of any JAP institute for the non-CAT, non-PI profile to make a real difference. And within that profile, work experience alone (15 points) outweighs graduation marks, board marks, and both diversity factors combined. Candidates with 18–30 months of strong full-time experience have a structural advantage at IIM Kashipur that doesn’t exist to the same degree at any other IIM in this series.
10. What a Strong IIM Kashipur Profile Looks Like in 2026
- Target above 96.25 overall percentile if you’re General category — that’s the real PI-call threshold, not the published 95 eligibility floor.
- Plan your application timing around 18–30 months of work experience — this is the only band earning the maximum 15 points, and it makes a larger difference here than at any other IIM in this series.
- Don’t apply after 36 months of experience if you can avoid it — the score drops to zero, same as a fresh graduate with under 6 months, losing you up to 15 points on the merit list.
- If you hold a CA, CS, or ICWA qualification, claim the 2-point professional qualifications bonus — it’s a small but certain gain in a competitive merit list.
- Push graduation marks above 80% where possible — that earns the full 5 points on the slab scale, vs. 4 points for 75–80%.
- Prepare seriously for the PI. At 25 points, it’s the second-largest single component after CAT and can swing your rank meaningfully within the merit list.
- Non-engineers from commerce, science, or arts backgrounds pick up the 2-point academic diversity bonus — factor that in when comparing your expected score against engineering graduates in the same pool.
Since IIM Kashipur’s formula rewards a combination of CAT, PI, and the right work-experience band — rather than just raw CAT percentile — building consistency across all three sections early matters as much as peak score. Start with free CAT study material, build a daily habit with the Daily Targets on the Quantifiers homepage, and benchmark your section-wise accuracy on the TruCAT free mock series before the real exam.
