Success Story – Rishabh's Road to IIM Calcutta

Rishabh Goyal IIM Calcutta

“The journey is more beautiful than the destination.”

I used to think this was just another one of those overused motivational quotes. Until I lived it.

Today, when I look back from the gates of IIM Calcutta, having scored a 99.94 percentile in CAT, I can say this without a doubt—this journey changed me. Not just as an aspirant, but as a person.

But it wasn’t easy. Not even close.

🚨 When Verbal Pulled Me Down

Let me take you back. The first time I gave CAT, I failed—not because I didn’t prepare, but because Verbal dragged me down.

There’s a special kind of heartbreak that comes from doing everything right, giving it your soul, and still watching the results shatter your hopes. You know the concepts. You’ve put in the hours. But on the D-day, it just wasn’t your day.

That moment forces a question you never want to face:

“Can I really do this all over again?”

The same mocks. The same syllabus. The same long hours…
Knowing everything could go wrong again.

But deep down, I also knew—I wasn’t done. Not yet.

🌪️ Then Came Quantifiers

When you’re low, you don’t just need a mentor—you need a storm of belief to shake you back to life.
That’s exactly what Quantifiers became for me. And Sahil Sir? A one-man army of optimism. I’ll say this on record—talk to him once, and you’ll walk away feeling like you could rewrite your story from scratch.
He gave me what I’d lost — faith in myself.

And so began the comeback.

📚 My Daily Study Plan

With my schedule, I didn’t have the luxury of studying for endless hours. But what I did have was consistency, structure, and accountability. I divided my preparation into two clear zones—weekend slogs and weekday sprints.

Here’s what my day looked like:

  • Quantitative Aptitude (QA):
QA was something I was confident about. So, I gave it comparatively less time. The QA classes at Quantifiers were brilliantly structured. The worksheets, the coverage, and the sequence of concepts—everything was mapped to perfection. I didn’t have to worry about missing out on anything.
  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR):
DILR needed a lot of consistency and mental strength. The first 50-60 sets were very difficult; I went blank, but then, over time, things came naturally to me, of course, with a lot of practice. Set selection was something that was still bugging me, even after a lot of time. What came to my rescue was DILR Sectionals,With regular practice and by solving 1 sectional everyday, I got better at set selection and hence, I was able to score 99.60%ile.
  • Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC):
This was the section I was most worried about, it was my make-or-break section. I made it my daily ritual to go through the DAILY TARGET provided by Quantifiers and attempt the RC Test. I tried to read atleast 3a4 RC’s everyday.Quantifiers gave us access to 150+ sectionals, complete with video solutions that helped me reflect and evolve with each question.

24×7 Doubt Solving:

And perhaps the biggest asset—Quantifiers’ legendary 24×7 doubt-solving group.
I remember dropping doubts at 1 AM, 3 AM—even 5 AM—and still getting them resolved. It wasn’t just a feature. It was like having a mentor by your side around the clock, making sure you never stopped moving forward.

Accountability with Sahil Sir:

At the end of every day, I had to send a daily update to Sahil Sir. Whether it was 1 PM or 1 AM, this little ritual ensured I showed up, no matter what.

📊 The Redemption: Numbers That Speak

  • Overall Percentile: 99.94
  • Quantitative Aptitude (QA): 99.94
  • DILR: 99.60

The very sections I learned from scratch became the ones that carried me to IIM Calcutta. Life has a poetic way of rewarding those who fight back.

💌 A Thank You That’ll Never Be Enough

As I pack my bags for IIM C, I carry with me not just books and hopes — but gratitude.

To Quantifiers, for turning my despair into drive.

To Sahil Sir, for being the voice in my head that said, “You’ve got this,” even when I didn’t believe it myself.

You made this journey less painful, more purposeful, and infinitely powerful.

So yes—the destination is sweet.
But the journey?
That’s what I’ll never forget.
