IIM Rohtak Selection Criteria 2026 — No Sectional Cutoffs, No WAT, and a 100-Point Score Explained
The IIM Rohtak selection criteria for PGP 2026–28 drop two things almost every other top IIM relies on: sectional CAT cutoffs and a Written Ability Test. What’s left is a five-stage process built on overall CAT percentile, an independent Personal Interview, and a diversity-driven final score that doesn’t directly reward work experience at all. Here’s the complete process, decoded.

1. What Makes the IIM Rohtak Selection Criteria Different
Most IIMs in this series — Mumbai, Shillong, Calcutta — gate candidates with hard sectional CAT cutoffs before anything else is considered. The IIM Rohtak selection criteria skip that step entirely: only the overall CAT percentile decides eligibility. A candidate who clears the overall cutoff with one weaker section is still in the running here, which isn’t true at most other top IIMs.
The second structural difference shows up at the final stage. IIM Rohtak’s 20% “profile” bucket is labelled Academic and Gender Diversity — not work experience. Unlike Mumbai’s slab-based work-ex formula or Shillong’s 18–24 month sweet spot, work tenure plays no direct role in IIM Rohtak’s final score at all. And there’s no Written Ability Test (WAT) in the process — CAT, PI, and diversity are the only three inputs.
Table 1 — IIM Rohtak Admission: The Five Stages
| Stage | Process |
|---|---|
| Stage I | Online Registration (₹3,095, non-refundable) |
| Stage II | Personal Interview — shortlisted on CAT score and diversity factors |
| Stage III | Final Merit List — CAT 60% + PI 20% + Academic & Gender Diversity 20% |
| Stage IV | Provisional Admission Offer |
| Stage V | Reporting & Joining |
2. IIM Rohtak Eligibility Criteria 2026
To apply to IIM Rohtak’s PGP programme, you need:
- A bachelor’s degree of at least three years, in any discipline, from a recognised university, with a minimum of 50% marks or the equivalent CGPA.
- A relaxed minimum of 45% marks (or equivalent CGPA) for SC/ST/DAP (Differently Abled Persons) candidates.
- A valid CAT score that meets the minimum overall percentile for your category — IIM Rohtak does not apply sectional cutoffs.
- Final-year graduation students can also apply, provided they submit proof of meeting the percentage requirement by the date specified by the institute.
3. IIM Rohtak Minimum CAT Percentile by Category
Because there are no sectional cutoffs here, this single overall-percentile table is the entire eligibility gate. Clearing it only makes you eligible to register for Stage I — it doesn’t guarantee a Personal Interview call, since the actual shortlist depends on how many eligible candidates apply in your category that year.
Table 2 — Minimum Overall CAT Percentile by Category
| Category | Minimum Overall CAT Percentile |
|---|---|
| General | 97 |
| EWS | 93 |
| NC-OBC | 83 |
| SC | 60 |
| ST | 50 |
| DAP-General | 87 |
| DAP-EWS | 83 |
| DAP-NC-OBC | 73 |
| DAP-SC | 50 |
| DAP-ST | 40 |
⚠ “No Sectional Cutoffs” Doesn’t Mean Sections Don’t Matter
IIM Rohtak’s selection criteria only check your overall percentile at the eligibility gate, but the shortlist for the PI is still competitive — and a lopsided attempt usually produces a weaker overall percentile anyway. Treat the absence of sectional cutoffs as one less hurdle, not a reason to ignore any section in your prep.
4. The Five-Stage IIM Rohtak Admission Process
IIM Rohtak runs its own five-stage process independently of CAP:
- Stage I — Online Registration. Candidates create a login, complete the application, and pay a non-refundable registration fee of ₹3,095. Registration typically opens in December and closes in early January, even for candidates who already selected IIM Rohtak on their CAT application form.
- Stage II — Personal Interview. IIM Rohtak conducts its own independent online PI. Shortlisting for this round is based on CAT score and diversity factors — notably, diversity already plays a role before the final score is even computed.
- Stage III — Final Merit List. Category-wise merit lists are built from the 100-point composite (CAT 60% + PI 20% + Academic & Gender Diversity 20%).
- Stage IV — Provisional Admission Offer. Offers go out strictly by rank and category-wise seat availability, sent only from pgpadmission@iimrohtak.ac.in — any offer from another email ID is invalid.
- Stage V — Reporting & Joining. Document verification happens in person on campus, including CAT score, degree/marksheet, and category certificate checks, before admission is confirmed.
5. IIM Rohtak Selection Criteria: The 100-Point Final Score
Once shortlisted and interviewed, candidates are ranked on a 100-point composite:
Table 3 — Final Selection Weightage
| Component | Weightage |
|---|---|
| CAT Percentile | 60% |
| Personal Interview | 20% |
| Academic & Gender Diversity | 20% |
💡 Work Experience Isn’t Scored Here — Directly
Compare this to IIM Mumbai (which scores work tenure on a slab formula) or IIM Shillong (which peaks at 18–24 months and falls to zero after 42). IIM Rohtak’s published final-score formula has no separate work-experience line item at all — the 20% diversity bucket is built from academic stream and gender, not professional tenure. That makes the IIM Rohtak selection criteria comparatively friendly to strong-CAT freshers from less-represented streams, while still rewarding a high CAT percentile above everything else.
If your CAT percentile is the lever that decides everything from eligibility to 60% of your final score, it’s worth stress-testing your overall consistency well before results day. Quantifiers’ TruCAT mock series is built to mirror CAT’s real difficulty and pacing across all three sections.
6. IIM Rohtak Personal Interview
The Personal Interview is conducted independently and online by IIM Rohtak, and carries 20% weight in the final score. Call letters with the date, time, and other instructions are sent to shortlisted candidates by email. A few preparation pointers that apply directly to this round:
- Prepare a wide range of topics — both general awareness and your academic subjects from graduation.
- Work on clear, confident communication; the panel is assessing how you think out loud, not just what you know.
- Be ready to explain specifically why you’re a fit for IIM Rohtak’s programme, not just MBA in general.
- Stay composed under follow-up questioning — confidence under pressure is part of what’s being evaluated.
- Run through mock interviews beforehand so the format itself isn’t a source of nerves on the day.
7. IIM Rohtak Reservation Policy 2026
Seats are allocated as per the Government of India’s reservation norms, across General, EWS, NC-OBC, SC, ST, and DAP categories:
Table 4 — Reservation by Category
| Category | Reservation |
|---|---|
| NC-OBC | 27% |
| SC | 15% |
| ST | 7.5% |
| EWS | 10% |
| DAP | 5% |
8. IIM Rohtak Selection Criteria vs the Other IIMs
Set alongside Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, and Shillong, IIM Rohtak’s process stands out for what it leaves out — sectional cutoffs and a WAT — as much as for what it includes.
Table 5 — IIM Rohtak vs the Other IIMs
| IIM | Shortlist Basis | Final — CAT | Final — PI |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rohtak | Overall CAT percentile + diversity (no sectional cutoffs) | 60% | 20% |
| Mumbai | CAT score only (sectional cutoff + rank) | 60% | 20% |
| Ahmedabad | CAT + Application Rating | 25% | 50% |
| Bangalore | CAT 55% + academics 30% + work-ex + gender | 25% | 40% |
| Calcutta | CAT 56/85 + Class 10 + Class 12 + gender | 30% | 48% |
| Shillong | CAT 65% + NARS 35% (discipline-wise) | 40% | 40% |
💡 Rohtak and Mumbai Share a Final Formula — Not a Shortlist
Rohtak and Mumbai both land on the same final split (CAT 60% / PI 20% / profile 20%), the heaviest CAT weighting of the six IIMs compared here. But the path to the interview differs: Mumbai shortlists on CAT score with zero profile input, while Rohtak folds diversity factors into the PI shortlist itself and skips sectional cutoffs altogether. If your CAT percentile is strong but your sections are uneven, Rohtak’s single overall-percentile gate is the more forgiving entry point of the two.
9. What a Strong IIM Rohtak Profile Looks Like in 2026
- Push for the highest overall percentile you can. With no sectional cutoffs, every mark you gain anywhere lifts the one number that decides eligibility and 60% of your final score.
- Don’t read “no sectional cutoffs” as permission to skip a section. A weak section still drags down your overall percentile — the cutoff structure is more forgiving, not the exam.
- Register the moment the window opens. The ₹3,095 registration fee and tight December–January window mean late filers risk missing Stage I entirely.
- Prepare PI answers on why IIM Rohtak specifically — the panel is evaluating fit with this programme, not a generic MBA pitch.
- If you’re a non-engineer or from an underrepresented stream, the diversity-weighted shortlist and final score work in your favour here more than at most CAP-based IIMs.
- Practice mock interviews so the independent, fully online PI format feels familiar before the real one.
Since IIM Rohtak puts almost all the weight on a single overall CAT number, consistent full-syllabus practice matters more here than chasing any one section. Start with free CAT study material, build a daily habit with the Daily Targets on the Quantifiers homepage, and benchmark your overall percentile on the TruCAT free mock series before the real exam.
