1. Why Application Fees Deserve Their Own Budget Line

Most CAT aspirants budget carefully for coaching, mocks, and books — and then treat application fees as an afterthought that gets sorted “whenever results come out.” That’s a mistake, because the fee itself isn’t the whole story. Once CAT results are declared in early January, shortlists for 15–20 colleges can open within the same two-to-three week window, each with its own deadline, its own payment gateway, and its own non-refundable fee. 7. Budgeting for a Multi-College Application Season

It helps to actually run the numbers rather than budget vaguely. Here’s what a genuinely broad — not extreme — shortlist can cost once CAT results are out.

• CAT 2026 registration: ₹2,700 (General/EWS/NC-OBC) — this is already behind you by the time results arrive, but it’s worth counting as part of the season’s total spend.
