Both components carry weight at Stage 1 and Stage 2, but with different magnitudes.

• Academic Diversity (DFa) — MBA and MBA-SM: 5 points for candidates with a non-engineering bachelor’s degree. Engineering graduates score 0. This is a flat binary bonus — not a scale.
• Academic Diversity (DFa) — MBA-ABM: Up to 20 points for candidates from specific agriculture, life sciences, animal sciences, food/agricultural engineering, environmental sciences, or rural studies disciplines (see Table 4 below). 8. MBA-ABM — The Agricultural Diversity Programme

MBA in Agribusiness Management is IIM Lucknow’s specialised programme for candidates from agriculture, life sciences, and allied disciplines. Three things make it structurally different from the flagship MBA:

• Lower cutoffs: 80 sectional and 85 overall for General category (vs 85 sectional and 90 overall for MBA).
• 20-point academic diversity bonus: Eligible discipline candidates (Table 4) receive 20 points in Stage 1 — the largest single background bonus in the entire IIM series. This can compensate for a CAT score that’s 3–4 percentile points lower than a non-eligible peer.
• No work experience weight: Work experience doesn’t factor into either Stage 1 or Stage 2 for MBA-ABM. The formula is purely CAT, academics, WAT, and PI.

9. MBA-SM — The Work-Experience-First Programme

MBA in Sustainability Management is IIM Lucknow’s programme for candidates with meaningful professional experience. Its structural differences from the flagship MBA:

• 24-month minimum work experience: Mandatory eligibility requirement. Candidates without 24 completed months of full-time post-graduation experience as of July 31, 2025 are ineligible regardless of CAT score.
• Lower cutoffs: Same as MBA-ABM — 80 sectional and 85 overall for General category.
• Different work-experience formula: Rather than starting at 6 months (like MBA), the MBA-SM formula starts at 24 months and uses the same 0.5-per-month rate — meaning the peak of 10 marks is reached at 44 months (20 months above the starting point of 24).

11. What a Strong IIM Lucknow Profile Looks Like in 2026

• Hit 85 in every section — not just the overall. The 85-sectional requirement is absolute. A 99 overall with 84 in DILR is rejected at Stage 1a. Balance across all three sections is non-negotiable at IIM Lucknow in a way that’s unique in this series.
• Target well above 90 overall for MBA. Clearing 90 only makes you eligible for composite-score ranking. The actual WAT-PI call goes to the top-ranked composites — and with academics, work experience, and diversity all contributing, 90 overall may not be enough in a competitive pool.
