IIM Udaipur Selection Criteria

IIM Udaipur Selection Criteria 2026 — CAT Cutoffs, a Two-Step Shortlist & the 55-25-20 Final Formula

The IIM Udaipur selection criteria run a two-step shortlisting process before the Personal Interview even begins — an initial eligibility filter based on CAT cutoffs, followed by a profile-weighted shortlist. The final score splits cleanly across three components. Here’s the complete process, decoded.

IIM Udaipur MBA 2026–28 at a glance: 375 seats. Clear the CAT sectional and overall cutoffs (General: 75 each section, 94 overall) to receive the pre-interview registration form. After online registration, a profile-weighted shortlist determines who actually receives the PI call. Final composite: CAT 55% + PI 25% + Profile 20% (Academic Profile 6 + Work Experience 6 + Diversity 8). PI requires a minimum qualifying score to appear on the merit list. Interviews conducted at IIM Udaipur campus, Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai.

1. What Makes the IIM Udaipur Selection Criteria Different

Most IIMs shortlist for the PI in a single step — clear the cutoff, rank by CAT or a composite, get the call. IIM Udaipur runs a two-step shortlisting process: the first step sends an online pre-interview registration form to everyone who clears the CAT cutoffs; the second step uses that registered pool — filtered by CAT score and profile — to determine who actually receives a PI call. Receiving the registration form is not the same as receiving an interview call.

The final formula itself — CAT 55%, PI 25%, Profile 20% — is familiar in structure but has one notable clause: the Personal Interview carries a minimum qualifying score. Candidates who sit the PI but fall below IIM Udaipur’s prescribed minimum are excluded from the merit list entirely, regardless of their CAT or profile score.

2. IIM Udaipur Eligibility Criteria 2026

  • A bachelor’s degree of at least three years in any discipline from a recognised university, with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • A relaxed minimum of 45% marks for SC, ST, and PwD (DAP) candidates.
  • A valid CAT 2025 scorecard — mandatory for all applicants.
  • Final-year graduation students may apply, provided they produce the required degree and supporting documents at the time of admission.

3. IIM Udaipur CAT Cutoffs 2026

Clearing both sectional and overall cutoffs is the first gate — it determines who receives the pre-interview online registration form. Meeting these cutoffs does not directly guarantee a PI call; that depends on the second shortlisting step described in the next section.

Table 1 — IIM Udaipur CAT Cutoffs by Category (CAT 2025)

Category VARC DILR QA Overall Percentile
General 75 75 75 94
EWS 55 55 55 81
NC-OBC 52 52 52 81
SC 45 45 45 66
ST 25 25 30 42
DAP 25 25 30 42
IIM Udaipur has a dynamic cutoff clause: if the number of candidates clearing the standard cutoffs is less than required for the PI pool, the cutoff will be reduced to include more candidates — and vice versa. Always verify the latest released cutoffs on the official admissions page at iimudaipur.ac.in.

⚠ Receiving the Registration Form Is Not an Interview Call

Step 1 sends the online pre-interview form to everyone who clears the CAT cutoffs. Step 2 — the actual PI shortlist — is drawn from that registered pool, based on CAT score and profile. Completing the registration form is compulsory, but it confirms only eligibility, not selection for the PI round.

4. The Two-Step IIM Udaipur Shortlisting Process

IIM Udaipur’s shortlisting runs in two distinct steps before the interview stage:

  • Step 1 — Pre-interview registration form. Candidates who clear the sectional and overall CAT cutoffs receive an email from IIM Udaipur with an online registration form for the PI process. Candidates must register within the given timeline and provide at least three preferred PI location choices (IIM Udaipur campus, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai).
  • Step 2 — PI shortlist from registered pool. From the pool of candidates who completed Step 1, IIM Udaipur shortlists for the actual Personal Interview based on CAT score and profile parameters — specifically academic performance in Class X, XII and graduation, work experience, and gender diversity. Candidates not shortlisted in Step 2 don’t proceed further despite having registered.

💡 Why the Two-Step Structure Matters

The Step 1 form functions as a soft pre-qualifier — it gives IIM Udaipur a smaller, self-selected pool from which to build the final PI shortlist in Step 2. Candidates who clear the CAT cutoff but miss the registration deadline are automatically excluded from the PI shortlist, regardless of their score or profile. The registration step is not optional formality — missing it is the same as not applying at all at this stage.

5. IIM Udaipur Final Selection Criteria: The 55-25-20 Formula

After the PI, IIM Udaipur builds a category-wise merit list from three components:

Table 2 — Final Selection Weightage

Component Weightage
CAT 2025 Normalised Score 55%
Personal Interview 25%
Profile 20%
The PI carries a minimum qualifying score determined by IIM Udaipur — candidates who don’t reach this minimum after the interview are excluded from the merit list entirely, regardless of their CAT score or profile. The CAT score used in the final formula is the normalised score, not the raw percentile.

💡 The PI Minimum Score Is a Second Gate, Not Just a Tiebreaker

Most IIMs weight the PI and add the score to the composite — a weak PI hurts your rank but doesn’t remove you from the merit list. IIM Udaipur’s minimum-score clause works differently: fall below the prescribed floor in the PI, and you’re out of the running entirely, regardless of how strong your CAT or profile score is. This makes solid interview preparation structurally more important here than at IIMs with no such floor.

6. Profile Score Breakdown — Academics, Work Experience & Diversity

The 20% profile bucket is split across three components:

Table 3 — Profile Score Components

Profile Component Weight (within 20%)
Academic Profile (Class X + XII + Graduation) 6
Work Experience 6
Diversity (Gender + Academic) 8
Diversity carries the single largest weight within the profile bucket at 8 points — more than academics or work experience individually. IIM Udaipur has not published a detailed month-by-month work-experience curve; work experience is scored within the 6-point sub-bucket as part of the overall profile evaluation.

Of the three profile components, diversity carries the most weight at 8 points — more than either academic performance or work experience individually. This reflects IIM Udaipur’s stated focus on building a balanced batch in terms of gender and academic background. Academic profile and work experience are each capped at 6 points within the 20% profile total.

7. IIM Udaipur Personal Interview

The PI carries 25% weight in the final score and is conducted at four locations: IIM Udaipur campus, Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai. Candidates select at least three location preferences at the time of registration; final allocation is done by the institute.

Panels typically evaluate academic knowledge, communication skills, clarity of thought, current affairs awareness, and specific motivation for IIM Udaipur’s MBA programme. Because a minimum qualifying PI score acts as a hard floor for merit-list eligibility, the interview preparation here matters beyond just rank-building.

8. IIM Udaipur Reservation Policy 2026

Table 4 — Reservation by Category (375 Seats Total)

Category Reservation
NC-OBC 27%
SC 15%
ST 7.5%
EWS 10%
DAP 5%
IIM Udaipur follows Government of India reservation norms. With 375 seats, this is one of the larger MBA batches among the IIMs covered in this series.

9. IIM Udaipur Selection Criteria vs the Other IIMs

Raipur JAP 2026 shared shortlist 33.3% 26.7% No
Ranchi JAP 2026 (sectional + overall) 65% 12.5% No

Bangalore CAT 55% + academics 30% + work-ex + gender 25% 40% No
Calcutta CAT 56/85 + Class 10 + Class 12 + gender 30% 48% No

💡 Only IIM in This Series With a Hard PI Minimum Score

Across all ten IIMs covered in this series, IIM Udaipur is the only one that publishes a minimum qualifying PI score as a merit-list gate — not just a weight. Everywhere else, a weak interview hurts your rank but keeps you in the running. At IIM Udaipur, falling below the institute’s prescribed floor removes you from the merit list entirely. Combined with a two-step shortlisting process and diversity carrying the most weight within the profile bucket (8 of 20 points), this is a process that rewards both CAT strength and genuine interview readiness more starkly than most.

10. What a Strong IIM Udaipur Profile Looks Like in 2026

  • Don’t confuse the registration form with a PI call. Complete Step 1 registration the moment the window opens — missing it is equivalent to not applying, regardless of your CAT score.
  • Target well above 94 overall for General category — the actual PI shortlist is drawn from the registered pool by CAT score and profile, so competition within the pool is still real.
  • Prepare seriously for the PI — the minimum floor makes it non-negotiable. A strong CAT score doesn’t protect you from being excluded if you fall below the prescribed PI minimum.
  • Note the diversity component’s weight. At 8 of 20 profile points, diversity (gender and academic background) carries more weight than either academic scores or work experience individually — the largest single sub-bucket in the profile score.
  • List all four PI locations in order of genuine preference — IIM Udaipur campus, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai — since final allocation is done by the institute, not purely by candidate choice.
  • Keep your graduation percentage clearly documented. Academic profile is scored in the shortlisting stage too, not just in the final formula.

With CAT at 55% and a PI minimum floor making the interview a binary qualifier as much as a scoring component, building both section-wise CAT consistency and interview readiness together is the core preparation challenge for IIM Udaipur.
