IIM Kozhikode Selection Criteria

IIM Kozhikode Selection Criteria 2026 — CAT Cutoffs, Aggregate Index Score & WAT-PI Final Selection Explained

The IIM Kozhikode selection criteria for PGP 2026–28 are the most profile-driven among the top IIMs. A high CAT percentile alone won’t carry you: the shortlist runs on an Aggregate Index Score that puts 35% on your school academics, the final stage weights the interview as heavily as CAT and gives WAT a hefty 20%, and a resume score rewards finance qualifications. Here is the full three-stage process, decoded.

IIM Kozhikode PGP 2026–28 at a glance: Minimum CAT 2025 cutoff 85 overall, 75 sectional (General). Eligibility needs a 60% bachelor’s degree (higher than most IIMs). Stage-2 shortlist uses an Aggregate Index Score: CAT 50 + Class 10 (15) + Class 12 (20) + Diversity (Gender 10 or Non-engineering 5) + Work Experience 5. Final selection: CAT 35 + PI 35 + WAT 20 + Resume 10.

1. What Defines the IIM Kozhikode Selection Criteria for 2026

IIM Kozhikode runs a three-stage admission process, and what sets the IIM Kozhikode selection criteria apart is how deliberately they reward a balanced profile rather than a raw CAT score. A candidate with strong academics and a diversity advantage can pick up a call ahead of someone with a higher percentile but a thinner profile.

Table 1 — IIM Kozhikode Admission: The Three Stages

Stage What Happens What Decides It
Stage 1 Eligibility & CAT registration Minimum CAT percentile + academic cutoffs
Stage 2 WAT-PI shortlist Aggregate Index Score (AIS), out of 100
Stage 3 Final merit list CAT 35 + PI 35 + WAT 20 + Resume 10

2. Eligibility & CAT 2025 Minimum Cutoffs

IIM Kozhikode sets a noticeably higher academic bar than most top IIMs. You need a bachelor’s degree of at least three years with a minimum of 60% marks — where many IIMs ask for 50%. Candidates with CA, CMA (ICWA) or CS qualifications are eligible at 50%. You must also have positive scaled scores in all three CAT sections.

Table 2 — IIM Kozhikode CAT 2025 Minimum Cutoffs

Category Overall Percentile Sectional Percentile
General 85 75
OBC-NCL / EWS 75 65
SC 65 55
ST / PwD 55 45
These are minimum eligibility cutoffs, not interview-call cutoffs — the real shortlist runs much higher. Aim well above the threshold to stay competitive.

There’s a board-marks floor too. General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates need at least 60% in both Class 10 and Class 12; SC, ST and PwD candidates need 55%.

⚠ The 60% Graduation Bar Catches People Out

Unlike IIMs that accept a 50% bachelor’s degree, IIM Kozhikode requires 60%. If your graduation aggregate is between 50% and 60%, you may clear the CAT cutoff and still be ineligible here. Check your exact aggregate against the official rule before you bank on an IIM-K call.

3. Stage 2 of the IIM Kozhikode Selection Criteria: The Aggregate Index Score

Candidates who clear the cutoffs are ranked for the WAT-PI shortlist on an Aggregate Index Score (AIS). This is the heart of the IIM Kozhikode selection criteria — a single composite that blends CAT, academics, diversity and work experience.

Table 3 — Aggregate Index Score (Stage 2) Weightage

Component Weightage Detail
CAT 2025 Index Score 50 VARC, DILR & QA scaled scores, weighted equally
Class 10 Score 15 Normalised across boards
Class 12 Score 20 Normalised; weighted higher than Class 10
Gender Diversity 10 Female / transgender candidates
Academic Diversity 5 Non-engineering background
Work Experience 5 Paid, full-time, post-graduation only
The two diversity heads are mutually exclusive — you earn gender diversity (10) or academic diversity (5), never both — so the AIS effectively tops out at 100. CAT uses scaled sectional scores, not percentiles.

💡 Academics Are 35% Before You Sit a Single Interview

Class 10 (15) and Class 12 (20) together make up 35 of the 100 AIS points — and both are locked in long before CAT prep begins. CAT is the biggest single block at 50, but it is not the whole story. If your boards are strong, the IIM Kozhikode selection criteria reward you heavily at the shortlist; if they are weak, your CAT and diversity scores have to do the lifting.

4. Diversity, Academics & Work Experience Inside the AIS

How diversity points work

IIM Kozhikode actively builds a varied classroom, and the rule is simple but strict — you get one diversity score, not two:

  • Female / transgender candidates: 10 points (gender diversity).
  • Non-engineering candidates: 5 points (academic diversity).
  • A female engineer earns 10 (gender), a male non-engineer earns 5, and a female non-engineer still earns 10 — because gender diversity is the higher of the two and the heads cannot be combined.

How academics are normalised

To compare fairly across boards, IIM Kozhikode normalises your Class 10 and Class 12 marks against the highest scores obtained by CAT applicants from your board over the last three years. You are judged relative to your board’s top performers, not on an absolute percentage.

How work experience scores

Work experience is worth up to 5 points, and only paid, full-time work after graduation counts — internships, articleships, fellowships and part-time roles are excluded. The curve rewards a specific window and then tapers off:

Table 4 — Work Experience Score Impact

Experience Score Impact
Below 6 months No score
6 – 24 months Builds up steadily
24 – 36 months Strong advantage
~35 – 36 months Maximum score (5)
Above 36 months Gradual decline

5. Stage 3 of the IIM Kozhikode Selection Criteria: WAT, PI, Resume & Final Score

Shortlisted candidates are called for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI), held across multiple cities over roughly half a day. The final merit list is then built on a fresh 100-point composite — and notice how the weight shifts away from CAT.

Table 5 — Final Selection (Stage 3) Weightage

Component Weightage What It Tests
CAT 2025 Score 35 Aptitude (down from 50 at shortlist)
Personal Interview 35 Personality, awareness, communication, fit
WAT 20 Structured written argument
Resume Score 10 Professional qualifications & certifications

Two things stand out. First, the PI carries exactly as much as CAT (35 each) — a great interview can fully offset a merely good CAT. Second, the WAT is unusually heavy at 20%, far above the 8–10% most IIMs assign — so written communication is a genuine scoring lever here, not a tiebreaker.

The resume score (10%)

IIM Kozhikode rewards professional credentials in the final 10% resume component, which is a real edge for finance and commerce profiles:

Table 6 — Resume Score by Qualification

Qualification / Certification Resume Points
CA 5
CMA (ICWA) 5
CS 5
CFA Level 1 5
CFA Level 2 5
CFA Level 3 5

💡 The Final Stage Rewards Communicators and Finance Profiles

WAT and PI together are 55% of the final score, and WAT’s 20% is the highest among the top IIMs. Add the 10% resume weight for CA/CMA/CS/CFA holders, and the picture is clear: at IIM Kozhikode, the candidate who writes well, interviews well and carries a professional credential has a structural advantage that a CAT score alone cannot match.

6. IIM Kozhikode Selection Criteria vs IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore & Calcutta

The same profile ranks differently across the older IIMs. Here is how IIM Kozhikode’s framework compares with A, B and C.

Table 7 — IIM Kozhikode vs Calcutta vs Bangalore vs Ahmedabad

Parameter IIM Kozhikode IIM Calcutta IIM Bangalore IIM Ahmedabad
Shortlist — CAT 50% ~66% (56/85) 55% ~65%
Shortlist — academics 35% (10th 15 + 12th 20) 25/85 (10th + 12th) 30% (10th+12th+grad) In rating
Shortlist — diversity Gender 10 or Non-eng 5 Gender 4 Gender 5 In rating
Final — Personal Interview 35% 48% 40% 50%
Final — CAT 35% 30% 25% 25%
Final — written test WAT 20% WAT 8% WAT 10% AWT 10%
Final — other Resume 10% Acad. diversity 6% Work-ex 10%
Min. graduation 60% 50% 50% 50%

💡 Which School Fits Your Profile?

IIM Kozhikode is the most writing-and-resume-sensitive of the four (WAT 20%, plus a resume score) and has the highest graduation eligibility bar at 60%. If you have strong boards, a diversity advantage, a finance credential and can write a sharp WAT, the IIM Kozhikode selection criteria suit you unusually well. Across all four, a 99+ percentile with no weak section keeps every door open.

7. What a Strong IIM Kozhikode Profile Looks Like in 2026

Pulling the rules together, here is the profile that converts an IIM Kozhikode call:

  • CAT: aim for 99%ile+ overall, balanced across sections: The minimum is 85 overall with 75 sectional, but real calls come far higher. You also need positive scaled scores in all three sections, so no section can be neglected.
  • Strong, consistent boards: Class 12 (20) and Class 10 (15) are 35% of the shortlist. Consistent 90%+ academics bank you a big head-start in the AIS.
  • A 60%+ graduation aggregate is non-negotiable: This is the eligibility floor — confirm yours early.
  • Diversity advantage: Female and transgender candidates gain 10 points; non-engineers gain 5. Akshita — a Quantifiers non-engineer who tamed the dreaded QA to a 98.95%ile — is exactly the kind of profile this rewards.
  • Around three years of work experience: The work-ex score peaks near 35–36 months and then declines, so there is no benefit to delaying your attempt for a longer tenure.
  • WAT and PI mastery: Together they are 55% of the final score, and WAT’s 20% is the highest among the top IIMs. Quantifiers’ GDPI preparation covers WAT structure, PI storytelling and current affairs, included with enrolled courses.
  • A finance credential helps: CA, CMA, CS or any CFA level adds resume points in the final stage.

This is the all-round profile Quantifiers builds students toward every year. Mridul (99.98%ile), Pallav (99.98%ile), Nikhil (99.96%ile) and Akshita (98.95%ile, a non-engineer who conquered QA) show that the right plan beats the right background.
